Nestor Miranda Collection

Nestor Miranda Collection 75th Anniversary Salomon 7″1/4 x 57 ring

A puro Nicaraguan created to commemorate Nestor Miranda 75th birthday. Miami Cigars hit the ball out of the park with this gorgeous cigar. It has the look, it has the flavor and it has the name. Everything about this cigar is said to be top of the line. The beautiful white and gold box wrapping the most gorgeous cigars I’ve ever seen.

Featuring two cigar bands ,one is white with gold letters and the other one completely gold which highlight the dark corojo wrapper making a very nice contrast and giving the stick a luxurious look. This Salomon shape makes this cigar even more interesting. The dimensions 7 ¼ inches by 57 makes one look at it with respect, it’s not a small cigar and of course just looking at it one can imagine how flavorful and delicious its going to be.

The first third brings notes of nuts, coffee surrounded by a touch of dates and some pepper. The pepper intensifies a bit after the first ½ inch without being overpowering, just completing the whole.

Second third the cigar delivers a touch of floral sweetness combined with notes of cedar, wood and some salt lingering around; with the taste of red pepper still in the background.

The last third of the cigar is all about nuts, cedar, and a dash of salt with some pepper. The construction is flawless, no touch up required and a perfect burning line, there’s nothing else to say. Its definitely a must try…for a special occasion or if you have a healthy budget as an everyday smoke…while you can get it, this cigar is worth every penny!!

5 cigars and whiskeys that go hand in hand

If you have been part of the whiskey and cigar world for a long time, you know the satisfaction of finding that perfect pairing. Whiskey and cigars go hand in hand for a reason – together, they are the epitome of sophisticated tasting pleasure. If you’re relatively new to the practice of cigar-whiskey pairing, you might be a little unsure of how to get an exceptional match. Fortunately, though it takes years to become a master in this arena, the concepts are relatively simple. Don’t let one taste dominate the other, but find flavours that bring out the best in each other. A helpful tip is to match the body of the whiskey to the body of the cigar. Don’t go for a full-bodied drink and a light-bodied smoke, as this will achieve the overpowering of one flavour.  Here are 5 cigars and whiskeys that go hand in hand:

1. Romeo and Julieta Short Churchill with Bruichladdich Islay Barley

Let’s start with something we can all agree on: Cuban cigars. This smoke doesn’t only have its country of origin going for it – Winston Churchill reportedly claimed it as his favourite, hence the name. Romeo and Julieta’s are smooth, creamy and easy to smoke, and they make a sublime match with the malty and buttery Bruichladdich Islay Barley. Together, this light pairing makes for an elegant tasting experience.

2. Camacho American Barrel Aged Robusto and Knappogue Castle 12-Year-Old Single Malt Irish Whiskey

This delicious pair is not only an excellent match, but a surprisingly affordable price for the quality. The Knappogue has been aged for 12 years in bourbon casks, giving it a malty sweetness that complements the toasty bourbon taste of the American Barrel Aged. As its name suggests, this whiskey has also been aged in bourbon barrels for a year after six previous years of aging. The similar process undergone by both the cigar and the whiskey means that these flavours round each other out and make for an exceptional complementary pair.

3. Padron 1964 Anniversary Series and Glengoyne 18

Nicaragua is another solid location to find a quality cigar, and the Padron 1964 is a prime example. Delicate, smooth, classy and with an incredible finish, this cigar contrasts with the fruitiness of the Glengoyne 18 – a whiskey that has been aged mostly in sherry casks. Though this match might seem a little contradictory, they manage to highlight each other’s differences without stifling the deep complexity of both the cigar and the whiskey.

4. Black Belt Buckle Corona Gorda and Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7

If you’re looking for a bold pairing, give this duo a try. Black Belt Buckle’s charred woody notes and earthy sweetness come out powerfully in this cigar. Therefore, to avoid overpowering the drink, it needs a strong whiskey to fight back. Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 is just that, with a flavour that features a slight sweetness and a woody trait – the common denominators that make these two a perfectly bold match.

5. Davidoff Escurio Gran Toro With Balvenie Single Barrel 15 Year Old

Complexity is the key to this wonderfully unique pairing. Davidoff Escurio is somehow creamy, sweet, leathery and spicy, all in one glorious cigar. It goes well, then, with this Scottish whiskey featuring a delicate fruity sweetness followed by a noticeable spice. The dramatic shifts in flavours that both the whiskey and cigar display flow together beautifully.

Becoming an expert on whiskeys or a cigar master will not happen overnight, but match any of these cigar-whiskey duos and you will not be disappointed. In the end, what matters most in cigar-whiskey pairings is that you enjoy the taste that results.

How to Fix a Cigar that Burns Unevenly

Lets face it, we’re not perfect. We all have some flaws and one of those could even include how we light our cigars. It’s not always as easy as it seems and when you do light your cigar incorrectly and it burns unevenly it can really kill the mood and ruin your cigar experience. But no need to worry, that’s what we’re here for! Give us some time and we’ll make sure that you know everything on how to fix that poorly lit cigar.

Cutting your cigar properly is the first step in ensuring that you do not have an uneven burn. Regardless of if you’re using a v-cutter or a punch cutter you should always know your own preferences, as some smokers will allow up to ½ inch of uneven burn before attempting to correct it, while others will only allow up to ¼ of an inch.

Of course, while your tolerance for unevenness is a vital consideration, you’ll still need to know what to do to stop that uneven burn and ensure that your cigar lasts as long as possible. What options do you have? How can you save your cigar from an ignominious death? How will you stop this cruel torturous cigar casualty?

First, you should know that many high-quality cigars can correct themselves if you just leave them alone. Usually, the uneven burn will be corrected within a space of ½ inch. However, if the cigar doesn’t correct itself, you will need to use your lighter to ignite the tobacco and wrapper in the area that is not burning. However, if the only portion of your cigar not burning is the outer wrapper or a very light layer of tobacco, you’re advised to leave it alone.

However, if you have a large amount of tobacco not burning, you’ll need to relight the cigar. Take out your torch lighter and light it. Hold the lighter just before the unlit tobacco, but do not touch the tobacco with the flame. Instead, you should simply hold it close enough that the lighter heats up the tobacco. Take an experimental draw on the cigar and determine if the area will ignite. If it will not, you will need to move the flame a bit closer and hold it for another moment. Take another draw and the tobacco should light. Smoke the cigar gently until the uneven burn is corrected and you’ll find you can still enjoy that smoke.

See that wasn’t too bad. You just saved a cigar and that’s what is most essential at the moment. You spend your well earned money on this relaxing hobby and you deserve to have a well lit cigar that isn’t burning poorly. We may not be perfect, but we are sure as hell going to ensure that your cigars are burning bright with no problems.
